Dundas West Animal Hospital is excited to be introducing this new service soon.
Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure performed under general anesthesia where a camera is used to look inside the body, mostly used for the gastrointestinal tract. Our specially trained veterinarians operate this equipment to look and assess for foreign bodies, masses, hernias, and more as well as take biopsy samples in certain situations. Endoscopy can be used in many areas of the body including the nose, esophagus, stomach, upper small intestines, and lower intestines/colon. Depending on the situation, endoscopy can be used as an alternative to surgery to retrieve foreign objects, take biopsy samples and investigate problems. By avoiding cutting tissue, endoscopy can decrease pain and allow for a shorter recovery time.
